OUR COMPANY

Xallas Electricidad y Aleaciones, XEAL, is a company located in the northwest of Spain, on the Costa da Morte, province of A Coruña, with two main areas of activity: the management and operation of two ferroalloy factories, located in the municipalities of Cee and Dumbría; and  theexploitation and operation of 10 hydraulic power plants, located in the basin of the Xallas and Grande rivers, from which it obtains clean energy.

Xeal has an annual production capacity of 184,000 tons of ferroalloys and 167.3 MW of generating capacity.

Factories

Cee Factory

It is the head of the industrial complex, dating back to 1904, where numerous renovations have been carried out over its 115-year history. It is located 95 km from A Coruña and 75 km from Santiago de Compostela. This factory borders the port of Cee-Brens, which receives large quantities of raw materials and from where final products are shipped to customers.

The Cee Factory has three three-phase electric resistance arc furnaces, two of which, one of 39,000 kVA and the other of 28,000 kVA, are dedicated to the production of manganese alloys (Ferromanganese and/or Silicomanganese), and the third, of 24,000 kVA, is designed for the production of Ferrosilicon. The latter has a Fume Filter in which Silica Fume (Microsilica) is obtained. There is also a 600 kw single-phase electric furnace for the production of Söderberg Paste for electrodes.

Dumbría Factory

It was inaugurated in 1977 and is located 10 km from the Cee factory, sharing services with it.

It has two furnaces for the production of Ferrosilicon in different qualities: one with a power of 72,000 kVA, making it one of the largest in Europe, and the other with a power of 39,000 kVA.

As an auxiliary installation to each of these furnaces, there is a bag filter to purify the kiln fumes by dry process, from which a product is obtained in powder form called Silica Fume (Microsilica).

Hydroelectric power plants

XEAL also manages 10 hydraulic power plants in the Galicia-Costa Hydrographic Demarcation, 9 located in the Xallas river basin (municipality of Dumbría), 3 of of which are new builds, and the tenth, in the Grande river basin (municipality of Vimianzo).

In the Grande do Porto river basin, there is a flowing hydroelectric development and, in the Xallas river basin, a series of cascade hydroelectric developments.

These ten hydroelectric plants have an installed capacity of 167.3 megawatts (MW).

The history of these hydroelectric developments dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, when the Pindo power plant was installed in the Ézaro inlet and the old, small Santa Uxía power plant was put into service.

XEAL currently employs more than 250 people and thereare also approximately  300 indirect jobs.
