- The students were given a guided tour of the Santa Uxía I and II, Novo Pindo, Castrelo power plants and the Castrelo substation.
Cee, May 18, 2023 - A group of 30 students from 12 de Outubro High School in Ourense this week visited XEAL's power plants of Santa Uxía I and II, Novo Pindo, Castrelo and the Castrelo substation.
The students, who are studying vocational training programs in Electricity, had the chance to gain a first-hand insight into the operating principles of a hydroelectric power plant.
Several department heads from the Energy division accompanied the group of students on a guided tour to explain the day-to-day operations of each of the facilities, with their corresponding particularities. They covered basic concepts related to energy types and turbine characteristics, and were able to observe close up turbines, generators, hydraulic groups, control panels and communications panels.
For XEAL, responding to the demands of the immediate environment is one of its priorities. Similarly, promoting technical vocations among young people is part of the company's DNA. In the words of María Couto, XEAL's CEO, "XEAL has always been committed to promoting the training of young people. The connection between education and the labor market is essential for young people to understand where companies are heading and what their needs are. We are moving faster and faster and the centers have understood that it is essential to adapt training to companies' specific needs".
Adriana Trillo, Deputy Operations Manager, and one of the people who accompanied the students on the visit, agrees with Federico Rodríguez, Operations Manager, in highlighting that "As a company committed to sustainable development, it is very important for us to contribute to the training of students, showing them how hydroelectric power plants work, their importance as a source of renewable and green energy, as well as their contribution to the current energy transition process. We also intend to guide them and help them for successive training phases and their future inclusion in the labor market, as well as to show them the importance of health and safety, a fundamental pillar in XEAL's day-to-day work".
