The management team of XEAL, headed by its director, Alejandro Seco, met this morning with mayors of A Cota da Morte, at the proposal of the councilor of Dumbría, José Manuel Pequeño, to explain their future project and resolve any concerns they may have about it.

During the meeting, Alejandro Seco pointed out that this is "a project backed by an investment plan that has already begun to be executed and which is based on a long-term commitment to the two lines of business -alloys and electricity-, to quality employment and to the development of the region as a whole". In this sense, Seco emphasized that the management of the company is already being carried out from A Costa da Morte, with the objective of bringing the decision-making bodies closer to the reality of the company and pointed out the four main lines of action on which they are focusing their efforts and investments: safety, the environment, asset maintenance and efficiency.

Likewise, Alloys Director Javier Vazquez, assured those present that the company is determined to "once again become a benchmark for the region".  For this reason, we have resumed our support forsocial, cultural and educational entities, such as Afafes, Caritas or Fernando Blanco High School, and are also exploring new opportunities for collaboration in order to recover our involvement in developing our local community".

On the other hand, XEAL executives answered the mayors' questions about employment, which was one of their main concerns, and explained that, despite the complicated reality of the sector and the uncertainty of the world economy as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, the company is committed to maintaining employment. Theyalso explained that part of the investments are aimed at automating the production process, which may entail internal reorganization and job changes.

In labor matters, the company also highlighted the measures it is adopting to maintain closer contact with its workers, setting up quarterly communication sessions with all employees, weekly meetings with middle management and the imminent launch of an employee portal, among other measures.

On the other hand, company officials insisted that their goal is for each of XEAL's business lines to be competitive on its own, without depending on the other.

To enable the Alloys business to be competitive, as the company pointed out, a stable energy framework is essential, providing access to the same price mechanisms as its European competitors and therefore compete with them on an equal footing. The mayors pledged their support to the company in its demand for an electro-intensive statute that complies with this. In short, it was a very satisfactory meeting, to the extent that the mayors had the opportunity to obtain first-hand information and resolve their questions about the future of the company and XEAL obtained the commitment of the councilors that it can count on their support in the defense of a project that aims to continue generating wealth for the area.
